Memories of Bygone Spring

A fragile relic of a spring long gone. Here are some pressed flowers found in a library copy of a book of poems by Margaret Deland illustrated by Walter Crane, the Arts and Crafts artist, designer and compatriot of William Morris, which was published in 1893. Who knows how old they might be. A decade? Half a century? A century or more? They have been carefully placed back in the pages which have preserved them for so long, the perfect decorative complement to Crane’s exquisite illuminations.
